Uptown Speed Street closures in effect Wednesday
Major streets in uptown Charlotte will be closed early Wednesday in preparing for the Circle K and Kangaroo Speed Street festival, which kicks off Thursday, May 21.
Coinciding with the Coca-Cola 600 race weekend and a part of the 600 Festival Association’s May event lineup, Speed Street is expected to attract 400,000 fans over three days.
Street closures started 9:30 a.m. Wednesday, May 20, and will remain in place until 8 a.m. Sunday.
Closures include:
Tryon Street between Trade Street and Fourth Street.
Tryon Street between Fourth Street and Third Street.
Tryon Street between Third Street and Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard.
Tryon Street between Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard and East Stonewall Street.
Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard between College Street and Caldwell Street (lanes open for parking deck access).
Westbound lane of East Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard between South Caldwell Street and South Davidson Street.
Brevard Street between Third Street and Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard (one lane of Brevard open to gain access to Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard).
Brevard Street, between Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard and Stonewall Street (one lane of Brevard to remain open for loading dock exit and parking garage entrance).
The following streets will close Thursday, May 22 at 9:30 a.m. and re-open only during morning rush hour on Friday, May 23 (6 a.m. to 9:30 a.m.) until Sunday, May 25 at 8 a.m.:
Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard between Church Street and College Street (lanes open to access loading dock at Wells Fargo).
Third Street between Church Street and College Street.
Fourth Street between Church Street and College Street.
Levine Avenue between Church Street and Tryon Street is currently closed due to ongoing construction.
