Guatemala first lady to visit East Meck High

The First lady of Guatemala, Rosa Leal de Pérez, will visit East Mecklenburg High School on Wednesday to learn more about the school’s Academy of Engineering and International Baccalaureate program, said Charlotte Mecklenburg Schools officials.

Perez will speak with students about the global importance of education between 8:30 and 9:39 a.m.

The visit to the school on Monroe Road is the result of the partnership between the Community Partnerships and Family Engagement department of Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools, the Latin American Economic Development Corporation and the Heineman Foundation.

Perez is the wife of President Otto Pérez Molina, who has run that country since 2012.
