Passenger breaks window at Charlotte airport after flight was canceled, CMPD says
A 24-year-old woman was cited Monday for breaking a window at Charlotte Douglas International Airport, Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police said.
The incident happened around 11 p.m., according to officials, amid the cancellation of hundreds of American Airlines flights to and from the airport.
The woman, Kathy Albright, was frustrated after she learned her flight was canceled, Observer news partner WBTV reported.
Witnesses told officers Albright broke the window near a valet parking section of the airport and walked away from the area. She was cited for damage to property after officials reviewed surveillance video, police said in a release.
Frustrated passengers dealt with travel issues at the airport over the weekend, as hundreds of American Airlines flights were canceled because of a technical issue with PSA Airlines, a regional carrier that operates flights under the American Eagle brand. PSA is a wholly owned subsidiary of American Airlines.
PSA's woes began Thursday night. A computer problem at the company's headquarters in Dayton, Ohio, interfered with the carrier's crew scheduling operations. The glitch led to the cancellation of hundreds of flights throughout the weekend. Thousands of fliers were left stranded at the airport.
On Tuesday, American Airlines announced the computer systems were "stabilized," and that PSA was working to restore flights back to regular operations.
Police didn't say in the release if Albright's flight was an American Airlines flight.
