Mooresville commissioner Mac Herring dies suddenly
Catawba County Sheriff Coy Reid said no foul play is suspected in the death of Mooresville commissioner Mac Herring.
Herring, 52, died unexpectedly Tuesday in Catawba County, the town of Mooresville announced.
Reid declined to say Wednesday where Herring was found or release other details.
He said the sheriff’s office will await the results of an autopsy but that “we don’t see anything suspicious.”
Reid said investigators could have the results by Thursday morning.
Herring, 52, was elected Ward 3 commissioner in 2005. He was mayor pro tem from 2011 to 2013.
Herring was at Monday night’s town board meeting. He cast the lone vote against a resolution asking the state Department of Transportation to delay a financial close on Interstate 77 toll lanes from Charlotte to Mooresville. Herring said the state has planned for years to move ahead with the project.
