Natural gas leak in uptown Charlotte closes streets Thursday afternoon
Parts of Trade, College and Tryon streets were closed in uptown Charlotte on Thursday afternoon because of a gas leak.
Construction workers using a backhoe accidentally struck and ruptured a 4-inch natural gas line near the 200 block of East Trade Street, said Rob Tufano, a spokesman for the city.
There were no reports of injuries to the workers or community members, Tufano said.
The fire department is monitoring gas levels and Piedmont Natural Gas workers were on the scene, Tufano said.
