You probably should take an umbrella to the polls on Election Day, National Weather Service meteorologist Trisha Palmer said Sunday.

The chance of rain during the day in Charlotte is expected to be about 65 percent, Palmer said, with the likelihood peaking in the early afternoon.

There’s also a smaller chance of severe weather, including strong thunderstorms and isolated tornadoes, Palmer said. She recommended keeping an eye on the news and weather alerts to find out if any warnings have been issued.

The wet weather is due to a cold front approaching the area Monday night into Tuesday morning, Palmer said.

The chance of rain will fall to 30 percent Tuesday evening, according to the National Weather Service, and Wednesday is expected to be sunny.
