Black Friday weather: Cold, then wet. Sleet and freezing rain expected to the west.

Black Friday shoppers in the Charlotte area will start out facing cold and end up with rain if they’re still out after dark, according to the National Weather Service.

And for those who plan to head north or west, there’s a Winter Weather Advisory in place after 7 p.m., with predictions of sleet and freezing rain, says the forecast.

The chance of rain Friday rises to 80 percent in the late evening, and will include patchy fog, says the National Weather Service.

Temperatures will rise only to 47 degrees, which is about 15 degrees below the norm for this time of year, says the National Weather Service.

Anyone headed to the Interstate 40 corridor in the western part of the state can expect sleet changing to freezing rain after 7 p.m., says the National Weather Service. The weather advisory is in effect until 8 a.m. Saturday.

“The southern portions of the Blue Ridge and locations north of Interstate 40 will see freezing rain transitioning to rain. The rest of the area will see just rain,” says the National Weather Service.

“With confidence increasing on light accumulations of freezing rain and some sleet, (we) will issue a winter weather advisory for those portions of the area where wintry precipitation expected.”

Temperatures in the Charlotte area are expected to stay above freezing, with a low of 40 Saturday and 47 on Sunday night, says the National Weather Service. The low Monday will be 35 degrees.
