4-year-old boy found safe after being reported missing from south Charlotte apartment

The 4-year-old boy was reported missing since just after midnight Friday from south Charlotte’s Emerald Bay apartments has been found safe, according to a tweet from Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police.

Charlotte-Mecklenburg police reported Justin Villeda Idiarte was found safe just after 9 a.m., via Twitter.

The boy was found by police within 100 yards of his home, reports the Observer’s news partner WBTV. The search team included officers on foot, a K-9 team and the department’s aviation unit, police said.

A CMPD press release said searchers found the boy in a nearby apartment.

He vanished from in his family’s apartment in the 6600 block of Montcrest Drive, officials said. He was last seen around 12:50 a.m. Friday, said a police press release.

Idiarte does not speak English, according to the Observer’s news partner WBTV. The station is reported the boy’s mother was awakened by what she believed was the sound of him getting up to go the restroom, but she later realized he was missing.

The Emerald Bay apartment community is near the intersection of Old Pineville Road and Archdale Road. Landmarks in the area include Archdale Park.
