More scattered showers, thunderstorms for Charlotte area

The Charlotte area can expect more scattered showers and thunderstorms this afternoon and evening and on Thursday and Friday, according to the National Weather Service in Greenville-Spartanburg, S.C.

Some areas could also see lightning and heavy downpours, and a few storms could produce damaging wind gusts.

New rainfall amounts of between a 10th and a quarter of an inch are expected both Wednesday and Thursday, and higher amounts in thunderstorms.

That new precipitation should be welcome news to gardeners, who’ve seen only a trace of rain in May compared with the normal 2.60 inches by this time of the month.

The chance of scattered storms stands at 40 percent Wednesday afternoon and evening and 30 percent Thursday and Friday. A high of 84 is forecast all three days.

Saturday and Sunday will grow a bit warmer, to a respective 86 and 88 under mostly sunny skies.
