One dead, another seriously injured in head-on collision in east Charlotte

One person was killed, another seriously injured, early Saturday after a head-on collision in east Charlotte.

Police say 23-year-old Donovan Emmanuel Pressley was killed about 8:30 a.m. when his 2005 Nissan Altima, traveling east on the 5000 block of Central Avenue, crossed the median into westbound lanes just past Rosehaven Drive. It struck a 2008 Ford F-150 truck driven by Daniel Stewart, who was taken to Carolinas Medical Center with serious, but non-life-threatening injuries.

A 2006 Ford van traveling beside the F-150 was struck by the F-150 as a result of the head-on collision. The van had minor damage, and its driver was uninjured, police said.

The CMPD Major Crash Investigation Unit is investigating the wreck. Police said that the Nissan’s speed appears to have contributed to the crash, but as of early Saturday afternoon they didn’t know if alcohol had played a part. Pressley was not wearing his seatbelt.

Anyone with information about this crash should contact Detective R.C. Gormican or Crime Stoppers at 704-334-1600.
