Gaston County Animal Control workers are canvassing a Gastonia neighborhood for pet rabies vaccinations after rabies was confirmed in a fox.
On May 24, a resident of the Logan Patrick Court area called the Gaston County Police Animal Control Division to report a fox that was acting aggressively and appeared fearless, Gaston County police Capt. W.S. Melton Jr. said Friday.
Animal Control workers impounded the fox and sent tests of the animal to the N.C. Laboratory of Public Health in Raleigh, which confirmed the fox was rabid.
The fox was the second case of rabies in the county this year.
