Catawba County Schools arranged for the community to gather on the Saint Stephens High football field Tuesday night to remember David Saine, a 17-year-old junior who died in a wreck Monday.

The State Highway Patrol has not released details of the wreck, which happened about 4:30 p.m. on Kool Park Road near the school.

“The Catawba County Schools family is grief-stricken over yesterday’s events,” the school system said in a statement Tuesday morning. “We extend our heartfelt sympathy to the families and friends of the students involved.

“We are praying for the students’ families and for the St. Stephens community as they begin to process and heal from this tremendous loss.”
