Traffic expected at Lake Norman-area graduation ceremonies has caused the state to delay lane closures on the N.C. 150 bridge over the lake from this weekend to June 19.
The closures will allow contractor American Bridge Co. to mill and prepare the bridge deck for a new concrete overlay. The $3.6 million project will extend the life of the deck by protecting it from aging and weathering, state highway officials said.
The bridge was built in 1961 and connects Iredell and Catawba counties.
The project is scheduled for completion this summer. Work began last year.

June 19 will mark the first of four consecutive weekend-long lane closures that will begin each Friday at 7 p.m. and continue to 6 a.m. Monday.
At no time will the bridge be closed to traffic completely, said Jordan-Ashley Walker, a spokeswoman for the state Department of Transportation.
