Child dies after being hit by vehicle near McClintock Middle, Charlotte police say

A child crossing the street near a McClintock Middle School parking lot died late Thursday after being struck by a vehicle, Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police said.

Investigators have not released the name and age of the child, who was a student at the school, according to WSOC.

The incident was reported about 6:25 p.m, and happened near the intersection of Rama road and Cabotwood Lane, CMPD said in a release. The school is located at 1925 Rama Road.

A girls basketball game was going on at the school around the same time, according to Facebook posts.

“Upon arrival, officers located a crash involving a child that was struck by a vehicle,” said a release. “The child was transported to the hospital by medic and later pronounced deceased by hospital staff.”

Detectives say the investigation “is in its early stages” and they are seeking witnesses to the incident. CMPD has not said if charges have been filed.

“Anyone with information about this incident is asked to call 704-432-TIPS and speak directly to a Homicide Unit Detective,” said a release.
