Mecklenburg sheriff’s deputy fired after cops say she hit man with ‘blunt object’
A Mecklenburg County sheriff’s deputy was fired on Wednesday after police say she hit a man with a “blunt object” in what is described as a domestic incident.
Police charged 38-year-old Minique Jackson with misdemeanor assault after the victim said he was punched in the face and hit with an object about 4:15 a.m. Wednesday.
Police said the victim had “visible signs of injuries.”
The victim was assaulted in the 5300 block of Prosperity Ridge Road, Charlote-Mecklenburg Police said in a news release. That’s near Interstate 485, southeast of Huntersville.
Jackson was charged after CMPD domestic violence detectives interviewed her at police headquarters, according to CMPD.
Mecklenburg County Sheriff Garry McFadden said he fired Jackson after her arrest. She had worked at the sheriff’s office since July 30, 2008, according to a sheriff’s office statement.
“I’m deeply disappointed in the conduct of one of my deputies, as we are bound by an oath to uphold the law,” McFadden said in the statement. “All employees of the Mecklenburg County Sheriff’s Office are expected to demonstrate professional and ethical conduct both on and off-duty.
“Violations of the law are not acceptable and in absolute conflict with the high standards of the Mecklenburg County Sheriff’s Office,” McFadden said.
