Autopsy: Gastonia woman pointed gun at police before death

A Gastonia woman fatally shot by police in February pointed a gun at an officer before her death, according to her autopsy report.

Betty Diane Sexton, 43, “recovered a gun from a closet and was reported to have pointed it at police” when officers responded to her 911 call after a domestic dispute, the report says.

At the time, a State Bureau of Investigation agent said she was carrying a gun but would not say if she pointed the gun at anyone.

The autopsy noted no soot or stippling around the one gunshot wound Sexton suffered, to her chest.

The Gastonia Police Department placed Officer LaDoniqua Neely, who fired the shot, on administrative leave pending an investigation into the incident.
