Huntersville pedestrian killed along commercial stretch of Statesville Road

A pedestrian was struck and killed in Huntersville late Wednesday, according to Huntersville police.

Police on Thursday identified the pedestrian as 65-year-old Mary Daykon of Dubois, Pa.

The driver has not been charged, police said. Investigators have not released the driver’s name.

The incident happened Jan. 1 at about 10 p.m., in the 14300 block of Statesville Road, north of Gilead Road, police said in a release.

Investigators say they arrived at the scene to find a single vehicle had collided with a pedestrian, resulting in fatal injuries, a release said. The exact location was not released.

“The cause of the crash has not yet been determined and this incident is still under investigation by the Huntersville Police Department Traffic Safety Section,” the release said.
