Armed robbery suspect went online to sell an iPhone — the buyer was a cop

Huntersville Police officers used an online sting to apprehend two armed robbery suspects.

The suspects are accused of using the Letgo app to arrange the sale of a PlayStation 4 and robbing the prospective buyer once they met, according to police.

Police say the robbery happened Wednesday at the home of a person who’d planned to buy the PS4. Officers arrested Jashwin Kesean Wilson and Noah Kwaku Tuffour, both 18, the next day, according to a news statement from Huntersville Police.

Wilson and Tuffour are accused of meeting the victim at the victim’s home on the pretense of selling the video gaming system, according to officers. One of them went to the door while the other remained in the car, Huntersville Officer Odette Saglimbeni told The Charlotte Observer on Friday.

The victim was robbed as a “a firearm was brandished,” police say.

During the investigation, police say, they found one of the suspects via the Letgo app and arranged to buy an iPhone from him on Thursday afternoon. Both suspects were then arrested.

Police found a gun in the car the suspects are accused of using in the robbery, according to the news release. The gun had been reported as stolen from a home in Monroe following a car break-in, according to police.

Wilson and Tuffour are both charged with robbery with a dangerous weapon, conspiracy to commit robbery with a dangerous weapon, carrying a concealed weapon and possession of a stolen firearm, police records show.
