Man’s truck was stuck in mud near tracks before he was hit by train, CMPD says

A man died after being hit by a train in University City on Saturday.

Around 7:20 p.m., Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department officers responded to a call of a person being on the railroad tracks near the intersection of Old Concord Road and John Kirk Drive, officials said Monday.

When they arrived, 25-year-old Codey Alexander Humphreys was found dead, CMPD said in a news statement.

Police said an initial investigation found that Humphreys’ truck got stuck in the mud after he drove on the grass between the railroad tracks and Old Concord Road. Then, Humphreys called a friend for help and began walking north on the railroad tracks before being hit by a train, according to CMPD.

An investigation is ongoing and CMPD says it “is working with Norfolk Southern Railroad Police investigators to determine the exact train that struck” Humphreys. Anyone with information can call Crime Stoppers at 704-334-1600.
