Predicted snow in Charlotte forecast caps a week of wild weather. Here’s the latest.

Charlotte and the rest of Mecklenburg County could see snow on Saturday with the arrival of a wet weather system from the Midwest, a National Weather Service meteorologist said Friday.

“It’s not out of the question that snow will reach the surface,” meteorologist Jake Wimberley told The Charlotte Observer.

But, if any does fall, the snow is not expected to stick, he said.

“It’s highly unlikely it would accumulate,” Wimberley said.

NWS forecasters early Friday were officially calling for rain Saturday, but “there’s a small chance a little bit of snow could be mixed in,” according to the meteorologist.

Snow is likelier in Charlotte in areas around the airport and stretching to the Lake Norman area and is not likely to reach further east to Matthews and Stallings in Union County, Wimberley said.

Temperatures in the mid-40s are forecast for Saturday afternoon, when the system is expected to arrive in Charlotte, he said. That’s cold enough for snow or snow flurries to fall, he said.

Watch for the fluffy stuff anytime from 1 to 6 p.m.

Snow would cap a week of intense weather in the region.

A major line of storms Thursday left two people dead from floods and rain. That system spawned off at least one tornado, along with hail and enough pounding rain to wash out numerous roads.
