After-school activities canceled by Charlotte-Mecklenburg schools Thursday fr

Expectations of snow and freezing temperatures in the afternoon and evening have prompted Charlotte-Mecklenburg schools to cancel after-school activities on Thursday, Feb. 20.

Classes are expected to be in session for the day, CMS said in a Facebook post late Wednesday.

An early dismissal is possible if the weather worsens during the day, the district said.

A winter weather advisory remains in place for Thursday and Thursday night, with a wintry mix expected during the day and snow likely after dark when temperatures will fall to 27 degrees, according to the National Weather Service.

There is a 90 percent chance of rain, sleet and snow from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and snow is likely after dark until 1 a.m. Friday, the weather service says.

“In anticipation of severe weather expected to impact our area tomorrow, all after-school activities are canceled for Thursday,” the district posted on Facebook late Wednesday.

“At this moment, we anticipate a regular school day tomorrow. Staff will continue to monitor weather conditions throughout the night. We will notify you as soon as possible through our regular communication channels if there is a change to tomorrow’s schedule, including an early dismissal.”
