Charlotte Observer staffers take home 28 NC Press Association awards

The Charlotte Observer won 28 awards in the annual N.C. Press Association competition Thursday, including 10 first-place awards, seven second-place awards and 11 third-place awards.

Thursday’s ceremony was held in Raleigh. The Observer’s NCPA winners were:

First Place:

Staff: Breaking News Coverage, “Bullying preceded fatal shooting of Butler High student, officials say.”

Anna Douglas: City, County Government Reporting, “FBI alerted after black Charlotte officials received threats, racist letters.”

Peter St. Onge: Editorials.

Anna Douglas: Feature Writing, “The man in the maternity ward.”

Ames Alexander, Gavin Off, David Raynor: Investigative Reporting, “Dismissed.”
