1 dead, 1 arrested in shooting outside Charlotte home, as homicides continue to mount
A 30-year-old man died after he was shot in front of a home in Charlotte’s University City area on Friday, and a suspect at the scene was arrested, police said.
Officers found a man later identified as Nathaniel Raul Newberry with a gunshot wound in the 3000 block of Azalea Hills Drive just before 4 p.m., according to a Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department news release. That is off Mallard Creek Church Road.
Newberry was taken to the hospital by Medic where he was pronounced dead, police said.
Just before noon Saturday, police said they arrested and charged 27-year-old Tyquis Syjuan Jenkins with murder.
Police are not saying if they know a motive behind the shooting, but said Newberry and Jenkins knew each other.
Newberry was Charlotte’s 13th homicide of 2020.
