‘Severe’ gas leak closes major road in Charlotte’s NoDA area. Firefighters on scene.

A “severe” gas leak has closed part of a major road in Charlotte’s NoDa neighborhood during the late afternoon commute on Wednesday, according to a Charlotte Fire Department tweet.

North Brevard Street is closed at 23rd Street, fire officials tweeted just after 5:30 p.m. That’s across the street from the North Brevard Light Rail facility.

No injuries have been reported. A Charlotte Observer employee, Charlotte Five editor Melissa Oyler, who was riding the light rail at the time said a strong odor was present at a nearby stop, Parkwood Station.

Fire officials urge drivers to avoid the area.
