Identities released in case of 3 people killed in Huntersville home Friday morning

Investigators have released the names of the three people found killed Friday morning in a Huntersville home.

Huntersville Police identified the people as Joseph Cooper, 44, Julie Cooper, 41, and Joseph Cooper Jr., 24, in a press release.

Details of how the three died were not released, but police officials said they are investigating it as homicide. Officials did not specify how the three people are related.

“The circumstances surrounding the shooting are still under investigation,” Huntersville Police said Friday in a news statement. “There is no threat to the community at this time and police are not actively searching for a suspect.”

Police say they were called to the 12000 block of Es Draper Drive in the Vermillion Community at 5:27 a.m. The call was about an assault involving a gun, according to police.

“Huntersville Police Officers, along with the North Mecklenburg SWAT Team, Medic and Huntersville Fire Department, responded to the scene,” according to the release. “After entry was made into the home, 3 individuals were located and pronounced deceased.”

Neighbors had been told to “shelter in place” as investigators searched the area for an “active threat.”
