More than 40 doctors left Novant for Holston in 2019. Now, some are leaving Holston
More than 20 doctors were suddenly dismissed from Holston Medical Group practices in North Carolina as the Tennessee-based organization saw a “dramatic reduction” in business due to COVID-19.
Thirty-five doctors had resigned from N.C. Holston offices earlier this year, according to a statement Holston Medical Group posted on its website Wednesday. The doctors were scheduled to leave in September, but 21 of the 35 were dismissed early.
“Though this transition happened earlier than anticipated, rest assured that we are here to support every one of you throughout this uncertain and unprecedented time,” Holston said in a statement.
Two people whose physicians were among the 21 dismissed early gave The Observer a copy of a letter they say came from Holston Medical Group. The letter, dated March 27, explains that their physicians had resigned, and that they can choose a new Holston physician or leave the practice.
Multiple readers emailed tips to the Observer complaining they were given no notice that their doctor would be dismissed.
At least a few of the doctors dismissed from Holston were among the dozens of physicians who split from Novant Health last year to join the Tennessee-based practice’s first foray into the Charlotte market. The group of more than 40 doctors announced plans to leave Novant Health in January 2019.
It was not immediately clear what the physicians would do after leaving Holston Medical Group.
