Posting old high school photos on Facebook? Scammers delight, Charlotte FBI warns
There’s a new challenge going around on social media — posting high school photos — but the Charlotte FBI field office warns that the seemingly fun game could compromise your digital security.
With time-honored rites like graduation and prom getting canceled to prevent the spread of the coronavirus, people have been posting pictures of their senior pictures, the year they graduated and the name of their high school in honor of the Class of 2020.
However the Charlotte FBI posted on Twitter that that information is often key to “Forgot My Password” security questions.
“Sounds fun to post your senior picture & name your high school? It also sounds like a good way for scammers to find out the answer to a very common password retrieval question. Stay safe on social media and don’t give the fraudsters an easy opportunity,” the FBI warned.
In other states, the Better Business Bureau and other consumer watchdog groups have issued similar warnings.
