Observer to move from its uptown offices
The coronavirus pandemic is reshaping the way many companies think about their business, and so are we at The Charlotte Observer. Today we announced that we will move out of our uptown offices in August.
Since mid-March, our team has worked effectively from home while providing vital local news coverage in our community. Our journalists have covered two ongoing major news stories, reporting on the pandemic and massive protests of racial inequity nearly around the clock, seven days a week.
The pandemic has deeply impacted our business, as it has many others. Revenue has fallen, and a timeline of recovery is uncertain. The move from uptown offices helps ensure that we can keep local journalists on the job, giving our community the daily reporting and accountability journalism you expect from us. Our commitment is as strong as ever to informing the community with essential journalism that helps us all take on the challenges ahead.
We’re deeply grateful for the support we’ve received from the community these past few months — whether you subscribed, donated matching funds for our Report for America reporters or wrote us a note recognizing our staff’s hard work, your support for local journalism has lifted us.
Through August, our offices will remain at 550 S. Caldwell Street in Charlotte. As we get closer to our moving date, we’ll share any changes in contact information. Our Observer team will continue remote work through the remainder of 2020, and will find new office space in 2021.
Thank you again for your support of our local journalism.
