Uptown Charlotte 4th of July fireworks fall prey to COVID-19. Here’s the latest.

The annual 4th of July fireworks displays at Truist Field in Uptown Charlotte – including SkyShow, a Charlotte tradition – have been canceled because of the COVID-19 pandemic, the Charlotte Knights baseball team said Saturday. The shows had been scheduled to take place July 3 and 4.

“The health and safety of our community are of utmost importance and we appreciate the understanding of all who have enjoyed the shows in past years,” team officials posted on social media.

The AAA team decided to cancel the shows in conjunction with Mecklenburg County, the City of Charlotte, Center City Partners and News Talk 1110/99.3 WBT, team officials said.

“We look forward to resuming the tradition in 2021 and perhaps hosting fireworks shows later this year, as conditions permit,” according to the team post.
