Hotel dispute ends with person shot on I-77 by someone in another car, CMPD says

A female in a car suffered life-threatening injuries after a shooting on Interstate 77 in Charlotte on Friday, Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police said.

The shooting followed a dispute among people at a hotel on Arrowood Road in south Charlotte, CMPD Lt. Andrew Harris told the Observer. Harris said he did not immediately know the name of the hotel.

Those involved in the dispute left the hotel in two cars, according to the lieutenant.

The victim was in a car with two people when another car pulled up beside them on I-77, and someone in that car fired a gun hitting the victim, Harris said. The victim was shot at about 1:30 p.m., he said

Her car exited onto South Boulevard, where one of the occupants called 911, Harris said. Medic arrived and drove the victim to a hospital, he said.

At 3:30 p.m., Harris said police had yet to find anyone in the other car.

The initial investigation is indicating that the victims and suspects knew each other, Harris said.

This is a developing story.
