NC ex-principal sentenced for sex acts, was accused of sending nude photos to student

A former North Carolina principal was sentenced to prison Tuesday after admitting to sex crimes involving a student he approached on a dating app.

Tony Lee Worley, the 58-year-old former principal of Lincolnton High School northwest of Charlotte, pleaded guilty in Lincoln County Superior Court to two felony counts of sex act with a student by a school administrator, court records show.

Worley was sentenced to a maximum three years and six months in prison, according to court documents.

Police arrested Worley in 2019 after accusing him of a “romantic relationship” with a student he approached on a dating app, McClatchy News reported at the time..

Worley resigned in June 2019 after being accused of contacting a student on Grindr, a dating app for gay men, according to WSOC.

He also was accused of using SnapChat to send a former student’s nude photos to the high schooler, the Lincoln Times-News reported when Worley was arrested. Police searched his home, cars and office, according to the Lincoln Times-News.

Worley was banned from school property and ordered not to contact any students involved in the investigation, Spectrum News reported at the time.
