CMPD pepper-sprays protester they say was stealing officer’s bike at uptown rally

Police deployed pepper spray on a protester who they say tried to steal a patrol officer’s bicycle during a pro-police rally at Marshall Park Saturday.

“No other agents were used during the event,” CMPD tweeted just before 5 p.m. with a photo of protesters at the park.

The incident happened after “Defund The Police” protesters marched to the park during a “Blue Lives Matter” rally happening there, Observer news partner WBTV tweeted. The station’s tweet included a video of police using the pepper spray on someone.

CMPD Central Division officers were at the park to “manage” the rally, according to the CMPD tweet. Counter-protesters also showed up, according to police.

Police said no one was arrested at the rally.
