Police are redirecting traffic near a water main break Wednesday morning on Wellesley Avenue, off Queens Road West in Charlotte’s Myers Park neighborhood.

The break happened about 5:15 a.m., flooding Wellesley near Hastings Drive.

At 7:30 a.m., Charlotte Water said on Twitter that only the 2200 block of Wellesley Avenue was closed and that customers in the immediate area may experience low-to-no pressure.

The road runs alongside Queens University of Charlotte. A university spokeswoman said the university still has some water pressure and remains open.

As of 7:30 a.m., Charlotte Water was waiting for other utilities to arrive and mark where they have lines, so Charlotte Water could then begin digging to repair the break, spokesman Cam Coley said.

Wellesley Avenue could remain closed until after the evening rush hour, Charlotte Water said on Twitter.

In other traffic news, Charlotte Water announced that the 100 block of North Church Street, between Trade and Fifth streets, will be closed until 4 p.m. Wednesday so a contractor can complete final milling and paving of sections affected by pipe replacement on Friday.
