Classroom Central appoints Curt Walton as interim leader
Former City Manager Curt Walton has been appointed interim executive director of Classroom Central, a nonprofit that collects and distributes free school supplies in local districts.
Walton joined Classroom Central last Wednesday.
He retired as city manager at the end of 2012 after serving in the position since 2007. Since then, he has had a history of working for nonprofits.
He served as interim executive director for the Council for Children’s Rights, a nonprofit that works on behalf of children in the community, and then for University City Partners, which promotes the northeast Charlotte area surrounding UNC Charlotte.
Starting in 2014, Walton joined Foundation for the Carolinas as vice president of real estate and facilities management, where he led a project to renovate the Carolina Theatre on South Tryon Street for a civic meeting space. He left in April when the project moved into actual design and construction.
