Another hot day is on the way for the Charlotte area Thursday, with temperatures forecast to climb to 99 degrees by afternoon and heat index values to as high as 103.
The heat index is what the temperature feels like to the human body when relative humidity is combined with the air temperature. Humidity levels stood at 85 percent Thursday morning.
Medic has responded to 29 heat exposure calls since last Thursday, including five calls Wednesday.
The hot conditions will improve only slightly into the weekend, as highs are expected to stick in the mid- to high 90s through early next week and possibly reach 100 by Wednesday at Charlotte-Douglas International Airport, according to the National Weather Service in Greenville-Spartanburg, S.C.
