No one was injured in an early Friday five-alarm fire at the home of a firefighter in Rowan County east of China Grove, authorities said.
The fire broke out at about 3:50 a.m. at the home in the 1800 block of Daugherty Road, county fire investigator Deborah Horne said.
No one was home at the time, she said, adding that the home belongs to a Bostian Heights firefighter who was on vacation with his family.
Extra personnel were needed to fight the blaze because of the heat, Horne said.
About 60 to 65 people from 21 area departments responded, and it took about 45 minutes to get the fire under control.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation. Horne said she has not been able to rule out the possibility that a lightning strike caused the fire.
