2 killed in separate wrecks Friday in Charlotte
Two people died in separate accidents in Charlotte early Friday.
An accident on northbound Billy Graham Parkway left one person dead, Medic and Charlotte-Mecklenburg police said.
The victim was identified as Andrea Elizabeth Vallejo, 21. She was driving a 2005 Nissan Altima in the 2700 block of Billy Graham Parkway when it ran off the road, hit a tree then traveled down an embankment where it burst into flames, police said.
Paramedics pronounced the victim dead at 3:59 a.m., Medic said.
The busy road was closed between Tyvola Road and West Boulevard for about 3 1/2 hours, police said. The cause of the accident remains under investigation.
The other fatal wreck was in the 900 block of E. Fifth Street, on the eastern edge of uptown. The victim was Scott Alexander Harper II, whose 2002 Chevrolet Camaro was found resting against a tree at around 2:15 a.m., police said.
Speed was a factor in the single-vehicle crash, police said.
Medic said paramedics pronounced the victim dead at the scene.
