2 dead after wreck that scattered US mail across I-85 in Charlotte, reports say
Two people died and another was hospitalized in a wreck near the Billy Graham Parkway exit of Interstate 85 in Charlotte early Wednesday, Medic reported.
The injured person was taken to Carolinas Medical Center with life-threatening injuries, Medic said on Twitter.
A tractor-trailer driver who failed to slow hit a driver whose Ford Mustang became stranded in the middle lanes, WBTV reported, citing the State Highway Patrol. The drivers died, according to the station.
The truck was carrying U.S. mail that scattered across the interstate and was later retrieved, according to a WSOC-TV report.
The State Highway Patrol has not released the names of those involved in the wreck.
I-85 southbound remained closed for about five hours after the 2 a.m. wreck, according to state Department of Transportation traffic alerts.
