Expect traffic delays during Vice President Harris’ visit to Charlotte on Thursday

Vice President Kamala Harris’ visit to Charlotte on Thursday could create traffic delays, Charlotte-Mecklenburg police said.

Harris will be in town to promote the infrastructure law signed by President Joe Biden.

Traffic between Charlotte Douglas International Airport and the South End area will be affected between 10 a.m. and 3 p.m., Charlotte-Mecklenburg police said in a statement early Thursday. Drivers should plan ahead and use routes to avoid these areas if possible, CMPD said.

CMPD did not provide additional details about what roads or highways to avoid.

No disruption to Lynx Blue Line light-rail service is expected, CATS officials told the Observer.

Harris will tour electric vehicle operations and deliver remarks at the C at 3145 S. Tryon St. That visit is scheduled for 11:20 a.m., according to the vice president’s office.

She’ll be joined by North Carolina Gov. Roy Cooper, U.S. Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg and U.S. Rep. Alma Adams, a Charlotte Democrat. Harris is scheduled to deliver remarks there at 11:55 a.m., as will Buttigieg.

Finally, Harris will depart from Charlotte’s airport at 2:50 p.m. on the way back to Washington, her office said.
