Body of teen recovered from Burke County reservoir

Search crews on Friday recovered the body of a Morganton teen from a reservoir off Branstrom Orchard Road in Burke County.

Crews began searching for Rayden Lynn Biddix, 17, after he went under water about 4:30 p.m. Thursday, the Burke County sheriff’s investigators said.

Biddix had gone swimming with a friend. He swam out some distance from shore, over-exerted himself, panicked and was unable to make it back, investigators said.

Rescue crews and law enforcement from several agencies searched the reservoir until late Thursday. They resumed the search Friday morning and recovered Biddix’s body about 11 a.m.
