10,000 without power in Mecklenburg County
About 10,000 Duke Energy customers were without power in Mecklenburg County at 10:20 p.m. Friday, as gusty 30 to 40 mph winds, lightning and heavy rain passed through uptown and headed north along the Interstate 77 corridor.
At least 2,500 of the customers were without power off Albemarle and Rocky River roads.
Nearly 1,000 more lost power in the area of Nations Ford and West Tyvola roads.
And about 800 customers were without power in the area of Rea and Pineville-Matthews roads.
