A heat wave that started a week before summer scorched the Carolinas last week. But after weeks of exceeding or flirting with record-level high temperatures, the Charlotte region got a break on Sunday.

Sunday’s high was 85 degrees, with relatively low 31 percent humidity, and people across the Piedmont flocked to outdoor activities.

Monday’s weather will also be nice, with a forecast high of 88. But the temperature will creep into the 90s by Tuesday.

Temperatures will stay hot for the rest of the week, though there’s a chance of thunderstorms Thursday through Sunday. Cleve R. Wootson Jr.
