How to watch the Harvey B. Gantt Center MLK Day event as festivities go ‘fully virtual’

A winter weather system that’s expected to bring snow, ice and low temperatures to the Charlotte area and an ongoing pandemic are forcing one Martin Luther King Jr. Day celebration to go virtual.

The Harvey B. Gantt Center for African-American Arts + Culture said in a Friday statement its commemoration of the national holiday in recognition of the civil rights icon will be a “fully virtual event” due to the chances of severe winter weather “and increased health and safety precautions.”

Monday’s slate of events includes children’s book readings, a screening of the animated movie “Our Friend, Martin,” an “interactive art experience” and panel discussions.Events are scheduled to kick off at 9 a.m. and run until 5 p.m.
