Interstate 40 eastbound reopened in Iredell County

Eastbound Interstate 40 in Iredell County was reopened around 6:45 a.m. Monday after a six-vehicle crash was cleared from the roadway, officials said.

The crash was reported just before 5 a.m. on eastbound I-40 at mile marker 141, near Sharon School Road. All eastbound lanes were closed for nearly 90 minutes.

There were reports of at least two pedestrians who were struck, Iredell County officials say. The investigation is still underway.

Officials say the initial reports says a vehicle was blocking a blind spot. No word on possible injuries.
