Man involved in June 13 motorcycle accident dies
A man critically injured in a June 13 single-vehicle motorcycle accident in south Charlotte died over the weekend, according to Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police.
James Sullivan was pronounced dead Saturday at Carolinas Medical Center from injuries sustained in the crash, officials said.
The accident occurred at 4:13 a.m. on June 13 in the 13200 block of Johnston Road, as Sullivan was traveling southeast on the off ramp from Interstate 485 in a construction zone.
All lanes were closed, except for the far right lane, which directed interstate traffic onto Johnston Road, officials said. The motorcycle left 89 feet of braking tire marks before running through the construction cones, striking one cone with the front of the motorcycle, officials said.
The motorcycle continued straight and the rider laid the motorcycle down on its right side. The motorcycle slid on its side and struck the raised asphalt break in the road where fresh asphalt had just been paved. The motorcycle flipped over onto its left side and the rider and motorcycle separated.
Alcohol was a factor and Sullivan had been charged with driving while intoxicated, officials said.
