Evening traffic diversions set on July 3-4 for fireworks fun at Whitewater Center

The U.S. National Whitewater Center will be hosting its their annual July Fourth Celebration Fireworks events both Friday, July 3, and Saturday, July 4, prompting Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police to put limited traffic patterns in place during the evening event times.

Police say the fireworks events are expected to draw thousands of people to the center, leading to heavy traffic in surrounding roads and the Belmeade neighborhoods.

As a result, limited and restricted traffic patterns will go into effect at 5 p.m. Friday and 6 p.m. Saturday and will impact the following intersections:

▪ Interstate 485 Inner Loop at Exit 12 / Moores Chapel: Access may be restricted for westbound traffic on Moores Chapel.

▪ Moores Chapel Road at Interstate 485: Access may be restricted for Westbound traffic across I-485.

▪ Moores Chapel at Rhyne Road: Left turns from Rhyne will be restricted onto Moores Chapel.

▪ Moores Chapel at Kraus Glen: No event traffic on the road, restricted to residents only.

▪ Moores Chapel at Hawfield Road: No event traffic allowed, restricted to residents and Fire/Medic emergency vehicles only.

▪ Moores Chapel at Charlie Hipp Road: No event traffic, restricted to residents only.

Additionally, event parking will be prohibited in the Moores Chapel Village Shopping Center at 9115 Samlen Lane, and pedestrian traffic on Belmeade Road will be restricted.
