Statesville police chief to step down

Statesville Police Chief Tom Anderson will step down July 27 to become director of public safety and risk management with the North Carolina League of Municipalities, the city announced Tuesday.

Anderson, 48, joined the Police Department in 1992 and rose to the position of assistant chief in 2006. He was named chief in December 2008 after the retirement of former Chief Steve Hampton.

Anderson reports to City Manager Larry Pressley, who is out of the country, according to spokeswoman Nancy Davis. “Therefore, more information about Chief Anderson’s resignation, his new position and his replacement will be released at a later time,” Davis said. Dave Vieser
