North Carolina man’s $1 ticket hits the jackpot in popular nightly lottery drawing

A North Carolina man hit the jackpot on a $1 lottery ticket after he matched all five numbers in the popular Carolina Cash 5 game, officials said Tuesday.

Robert Bowen of Conover scored the $110,000 prize in Friday’s drawing, according to a lottery news release.

To win the jackpot, players must match all five numbers in the nightly drawing, according to the Carolina Cash 5 page on the lottery website.

Bowen beat odds of 1 in 962,598, according to the lottery.

When he claimed his prize at lottery headquarters in Raleigh on Monday, Bowen didn’t tell officials what he plans to do with his big win. He didn’t immediately return a phone message from The Charlotte Observer on Tuesday.

Bowen bought the ticket at KS Mart on Springs Road in Hickory, officials said.

After taxes, he took home $78,113, according to the lottery.

Cash 5 is one of four N.C. lottery games that let players buy tickets at a retailer and on the lottery website and app.

Tuesday’s jackpot stood at $135,000, according to the lottery.
