NC man stops by Charlotte-area Harris Teeter and walks out a lottery jackpot winner

Neal Badolato took a chance on a North Carolina scratch-off lottery ticket at a Harris Teeter in Cornelius, and it paid off.

Badolato, of Cornelius won the $2 million grand prize with his $20 Diamond Dazzler ticket, according to N.C. Education Lottery officials.

When Badolato arrived at lottery headquarters in Raleigh on Friday to collect his prize, he had another decision to make: choose an annuity of $100,000 over 20 years or a lump sum of $1.2 million. He chose the lump sum and took home $852,126 after taxes, lottery officials said.

The odds of winning a prize is 1 in 3.07, according to the lottery website.

The Diamond Dazzler scratch-off game debuted on Jan. 4 with four top prizes of $2 million and eight $100,000 prizes. Two $2 million prizes and five $100,000 prizes remain to be claimed, lottery officials said.
