Charlotte second-grader injured at bus stop, but it wasn’t a hit-and-run, police say

A Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools student was injured after running into a stopped car at a bus stop in northeast Charlotte on Wednesday morning, officials said.

The incident happened near the intersection of Carolina Lilly Lane and Mill Cove, according to Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police. It was being investigated as a hit-and-run, police said, until investigators determined the child ran into the car.

It is no longer being worked as a traffic accident or a hit-and-run, police said.

The second-grader was taken to a hospital for evaluation but didn’t appear to have serious injuries, CMS spokeswoman Cassie Fambro said.

The driver of the car left the scene, according to Fambro.

CMS did not say what school the student attended.

The student attended Mallard Creek Elementary, WSOC-TV reported. There was a call for service to the school Wednesday morning, police said.
